I love crafting magazines, I have a couple of subscriptions but I also buy them off the rack from Books A Million, Barnes & Noble and Joann’s. America lacks in the crafting magazine world, with only a limited few to choose from and typically no freebies inside. Canada also has some but again limited and typically no freebies, while the UK is just unindated with them, which is great but getting them here in the USA can be pricey.
Given I cannot legally show you every page, I can show you some pages and also the goodies you can get with them. Maybe you will see something in them and want to subscribe as well or venture to an outlet near you that carries them for purchase. My subscriptions are for 1) Creative Stamping which always comes with a sheet of stamps, sometimes you will also get dies, papers, a stencil or embossing folder.
Inside you will find ideas on how to make cards using the stamps and other items, it then has tons of other pages of cards, and inspiration made with other products with their name and company, as well as spotlights on products, stores, crafters, company’s and a New Product section and where to purchase all products.
2) My other subscription is to Papercraft Essentials which always includes papercrafting products, like ephemera, toppers, papers, cards, sometimes tools or dies, stamps, stencils, embossing folders etc… The same format applies with how to use the added products and then all of the above like in my Creative Stamping magazine.
Most of the UK magazines are linked into Craftworld, where you can get free digi downloads, tutorials and more. You can also subscribe online for physical or digital copies to various magazines through CraftStash, Tonic Studios, Crafters Companion, Expressmags, Craftworld, or moremags. I also purchase Daphne’s, Simply Cards & Papercraft, Die-Cutting Essentials, Craft Beautiful, Papercrafter, Cardmaking & Papercraft, Tonic Studios Magazine Kit, Hunkydory Magazine Kit, StampsbyChloe magazine Kit, Lisa Horton Magazine Kit and other magazines when available. The Magazine kits are usually released quarterly and regular magazine releases are monthly.
I am not sure of my subscription costs but I think it’s around $90.00+ US annually for 13 magazines and in store they range from $11.95 each US to $29.95 each US, depending on the magazine type and whether it’s a magazine or magazine kit. The Tonic Studios magazine kit is $32.99 US plus shipping however I feel it is worth the price.
The inspiration, ideas and knowledge you gain from these magazines is boundless, So if and when you tire of reading them, or run out of storage space, you can use them in your crafting as mixed media, layers, scraps etc, makes them even more fun to have.
Daphne’s Diary (featured) has thicker pages then most magazines so you can cut images out and for example make into ephemera or use as layering backgrounds on cards etc, The new Tonic Magazine kits also features thicker pages. Magazines are great for Decopage and paper mache’ as well.
I hope this helps you to see the value in magazines and how helpful they can be and also just how great their inspiration really is.
